Why do drug stores chains divide their products into Drugs and in-store sales products and why is this a good marketing idea?

As you can see, Marketing is an ongoing set of research projects that must deal not only with where we are today but where can we take this product or service in the future. With this understanding of marketing if you think about a product like the Apple iPhone, why is it important to reinvent this product every 12 to 15 months and what would happen to Apple if a new iPhone was not introduced every year or so?
